Verify an RBQ licence

Enter the licence number, the business name or its NEQ. We search the list of active licences that the Régie du bâtiment du Québec publishes every day.

Zone Réno does not vet businesses: this page shows what the Régie publishes, with nothing added. Always confirm in the official RBQ registry before you sign.

How to read the result

Active licence

The Régie authorizes the business to carry out the work in its subclasses. An active licence says nothing about the quality of the work, insurance or complaints.

Subclasses

They must match your project: 15.5 for plumbing, 16 for electrical work, 1.2 or 1.3 for a general contractor who takes charge of a job. A licence for other kinds of work does not cover yours.

Restriction

A restricted licence stays active. During the period shown, however, its holder cannot bid on or enter into a public contract.

What about the Zone Réno "verified" label?

This page shows what the Régie publishes, with nothing added. On our profiles, the "verified" label next to the RBQ number only appears after our team has checked it by hand.

Bond, insurance, written contract: the other checks to make before signing are in our guide to choosing a contractor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check a contractor's RBQ licence?

Enter the licence number, the business name or its NEQ in the tool on this page. If the licence is active, you will see its status, restrictions and subclasses. Then confirm in the official RBQ registry before you sign.

Where do I find the RBQ licence number?

It has 10 digits, in the form 1234-5678-90, and normally appears on the contractor's quote, contract and advertising. If you cannot find it anywhere, ask for it before going any further.

Why doesn't my contractor's licence show up?

The list only includes active licences, so a suspended, cancelled or unrenewed licence is not in it. Double-check the number too. If the contractor holds the licence in their own name, search by number, since the Régie does not publish those names.

What does a restriction on an RBQ licence mean?

A restricted licence stays active. During the period shown, however, its holder cannot bid on or enter into a public contract. The official RBQ registry has the details.

Does an active licence mean the contractor is reliable?

No. It confirms that the Régie authorizes them to do certain work. Also check that the subclass matches your project, ask for proof of insurance and insist on a written contract.

Where does this information come from?

From the list of active licences that the Régie du bâtiment du Québec publishes every day on Données Québec, under a CC-BY 4.0 licence. Zone Réno adds nothing to it and corrects nothing in it.
