Frequently Asked Questions
Is my balcony strong enough for a new railing?▾
That must be checked first. A railing fastened into damaged structure will not hold, whatever its quality. A good contractor inspects the support before quoting.
Which warranty covers what?▾
The manufacturer covers the product, including the seal between panes. The contractor covers installation, so caulking and perimeter tightness. Ask for both in writing.
Can I replace just one window?▾
Yes, if the others are sound. Windows are often replaced in stages, starting with the most exposed or most damaged.
What lead times should I expect?▾
Several weeks between measurement and installation, longer in spring and summer.
How do I verify a contractor is licensed?▾
Ask for the RBQ licence number and search the Régie du bâtiment du Québec public registry.
Windows & Glazing in Longueuil: what to know
Between the older housing of Vieux-Longueuil and the bungalow neighbourhoods of Saint-Hubert and Greenfield Park, needs range from restoring old openings to simply replacing aging windows.
Windows in older housing
Openings are not square and dimensions vary from room to room. Individual measurement is essential, and a contractor who orders from a single reading is setting up trouble.
Guardrails and balconies
On a balcony, the strength of the fastening matters as much as the railing itself. If the balcony structure is damaged, replacing only the railing means screwing new metal into rot.
Warranties
The manufacturer covers the product, the contractor covers the installation. Condensation between panes is a product issue; water getting in around the frame is an installation issue.
Licence
The contractor must hold a Régie du bâtiment du Québec licence, liability insurance and a CNESST clearance.
